Running: Adidas King Of The Road (KOTR) Malaysia 2013 (Selangor)

Just hours after completing the BSN Putrajaya Night Marathon 2013 in the Half-Marathon (21KM) category, I rushed back home for a quick meal and short nap for the next running event I signed up --- Adidas King Of The Road (KOTR) Malaysia 2013.

Race Details
Date : 20 October 2013 (Sunday)
Venue: NPE Highway, Sunway Pyramid, Petaling Jaya

Runner's Entitlement

- Adidas KOTR Running Vest
- Race Number Bib with RFID
- Finisher Medal for ALL finishers

Registered for the 10KM category together with my younger brother +Shafwan Wahab and his special friend. Had to wear my young sister's S Ray PINK running vest due to the vest size fitting. Adidas happen to provide a larger cutting size different from the measurement shared to participants during registration. My selected S INFRARED was way too big for me. I preferred last year's KOTR vest more.

Running Day
It was a 5 minutes walk from Sunway Mentari to the flag off venue. The 16.8KM runners were already flagged-off during my slow-walk there. It was easy to navigate thru the crowd towards the starting line with the help of volunteers and their big signboards.

Walking up the stairs with last night's damage
Light jog towards the starting line
With muscle cramps and lack of rest from last night's run, gunning for a good finishing time will be challenging. So I decided to take slow and enjoy more at this event. And to wear last night's finisher tee was a MUST. Lot of runners at Adidas KOTR did the same too.

Enjoying the event
Met Farrah and Yen at the starting line too
Flagged off at 7.15am running along NPE Highway. Road closure was announced to the public a few days earlier. Flag off time was just perfect to catch the scenic view of the sunrise in Petaling Jaya.

At KM1, we started shift to the left side of the road giving way to serious runners. We had a great time taking photos with my DSLR and iPhone along the running route.

Distance, water station and medical assistance were available at every check-point. Supply of 100 Plus was sufficient to runners at the water station too.

The finisher medal was given at the finishing line. Adidas never fail at their medal design. This year's medal design met my expectations. Medal was unique similar to the previous years.

Did not managed to check out exhibition area. Looks similar with last year as per sponsors and partners. Sat down at the Teh Tarik Runner's waiting area for the others. The Gym Monkey (Irhash) was running in the 16.8KM category. It's been a while since we ran in the same event together.

Comments
Actual vest size given was not acceptable. Runners paid for a vest that is comfortable to wear during the event. Official photos shared which are uploaded onto the Flicker site were not in sequence. It was hard to find my own photos. Wish there was a official photographer stationed permanently at the finishing line until the end of the event too. A bit disappointed with the event organisor as they was in a rush to dismantle the event backdrop. Lot of people were still lining-up for turn to take photograph with the KOTR wallpaper.

Summary: Good job to the oganisor and partners! But you still need to improve on the vest size communications. You may not want to mislead registered runners and giving them a vest that is not suitable with their body size. I will still return next year.

Event Recommendation: ★★★★ (4/5)
