Race For A Brighter World
I registered myself to run in the Energizer Night Race 2014 on May 2014 as my first run after 1-month of fasting. Didn't really exercise nor train during that season. Signed up for the 15km to start-up my running routine again.
Venue: Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur
Date: 9 August 2014, Saturday
Official Website: https://energizer.com.my/nightrace/default.aspx
Running Entitlements
- Brooks Running Vest
- Energizer LED Headlamp
- Bib with Timing Chip
- Finisher Medal
Received my race pack kit a week earlier before the Hari Raya festive holiday by courier. It was always convenient with the delivery option provided to participants by Hooha.
Running Night
Left home hours before the flag off time (8.00pm) for headlamp collection at the event venue. I had no problem going to the event venue since I was using the LRT instead of driving. less than 5 minutes walk to Dataran Merdeka from Masjid Jamek LRT Station.
There were two baggage deposit tent by each category. Lot of things to do and see even if reached there early. Tons of exhibitors and sponsor booths in the area.

Re-grouped with usual running buddies, my home neighbour - Farizul & friends and my younger brother Shafwan who flew from Kota Kinabalu for this run and my office colleague Hadi who will be running his 2nd official race. No sight of Farrah and Yen since they are going to be running at NM Galaxy 3rd Series the next day.
We entered the starting area 30 minutes before flag off for warm-up and some photo-op. Saw a lot of familiar runner faces in the area.

Beautiful fireworks before flag off |
The 15km category was flagged off after a fascinating fireworks performance in the air.
No real running for the first KM due to human-traffic. Had to zig-zag my way until KM2.5 to start my standard running pace. It was a warm and humid night. Was looking forward for the water station along the running route.
The first water station was located at KM5 with mineral water and 100 Plus. First water station was managed very poorly though. Located at a bottle-neck junction with insufficient water stock served on table. Runners were seen helping each other by sharing and pouring water for others.
Had the opportunity to take a selfie with the friendly Mr. Mohd Azmi, running with his sarong at the water station too.

Distance markers and traffic marshals were seen at all major checkpoint and junction. Traffic control at the main road was all right. The main road along Jalan Kuching was closed for runners. However traffic along the running route towards Bukit Tunku was not so great. A single lane with the other lane accessed by vehicles for thousands of runners was not suitable. Running was fine again after the Bukit Tunku climb.

Unfortunately, I ended up walking after KM12 due to a lil bit of calf pain. Didn't really saw any medic at that sector though.
I eventually crossed the finishing line to collect the finisher medal, mineral water and a snack box.

Nice running vest and medal design. A lot of photographers by Nikon Club Malaysia ad freelancers. Still looking for my finishing photo though. Excellent exhibition area at the event. Huge and interesting booths by partners and sponsors.
Poorly managed water stations. Location for water station was not really suitable due to the numbers of participants in the event. Mineral water and 100 Plus at every water station were excellent though.
Summary: A good running event to participate with good organisor and well-known sponsors partners.
Event Recommendation: ★★★☆☆
