Hey Zengarmy,
"It's Levi-OOOO-sar not Levio-SARRRR."
WHO ELSE IS LIVING FOR FETUS HERMIONE GRANGER?? I'm obsessed with her!
I don't know why but this Harry Potter scene keeps on popping up in my head
while I'm typing so I just had to put this GIF out there to give myself a break.
Just thought that I'll let you know what's on my mind. Welcome to my brain!
Now, before I begin with the review, here's a sad TMI backstory behind this post:
I initially planned to write this post straight after I've watched the movie premiere
two days ago (that's Wednesday for me), but SADLY MY LAPTOP BROKE DOWN and
basically just REFUSED TO TURN ON ANYMORE. At first I thought my laptop is just
throwing yet another stupid tantrum (this is only #relatable to non-MacBook users)
but it's only after almost 6 hours of black screen that I started to realize my laptop
is OFFICIALLY IN A PERPETUAL COMA STATE. And, you've guessed it, I had another
episode of anxiety attack because part of my income is dependent on the Internet
and I (unfortunately) had a sponsored post to post on that day before 8pm on my
Facebook page. So, long story short, starting from now, I have to go to the library
to use the PC for work EVERYDAY UNTIL I GET A NEW LAPTOP (or until my laptop
decides to miraculously recover from its coma, which I'm highly sceptical about.)
Alright. Enough of the negativity. Let's move on to the movie review!
(Says me as I'm typing on the library PC's keyboard while silently crying)
I believe 99% of the people who watched this movie are Harry Potter fanatics
SO NEED I SAY MORE ABOUT MY FANATIC LEVEL FOR THE HARRY POTTER SERIES?
Try me, bitch. But in all honesty, I think I'm not the most fanatic Harry Potter fan
(does this fandom have a nickname or something? Let me know in the comments!)
because TRUST ME, I've seen people who watch the entire Harry Potter series like
it was their daily routine and can name any Harry Potter character's name at ease
— even those characters who've only appeared in a 5-second movie scene or a single
paragraph in the novel. Like, hands down to the hardcore commitment. Applause!
This movie better be good or else! And guess what's my verdict after watching it?
[ Alohomora! 9 out of 10 magic wands for
Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them! ]
With that being said, I do have a very high expectation for this movie upon
the arrival of its official movie trailer in September this year. I was like, FUCK.This movie better be good or else! And guess what's my verdict after watching it?
[ Alohomora! 9 out of 10 magic wands for
Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them! ]
Truly magical, this movie DEFINITELY lives up to my crazy expectation of
post-Harry-Potter indulgence. I must honestly say that I'm not much of a
prequel kind of person (I'm more of a sequel person) because I MEANNNN,
what is the point of the prequel when ALLLL I'm interested to know about
is "What happened after the last episode of Harry Potter"? You feel me?!
is "What happened after the last episode of Harry Potter"? You feel me?!
But bloody hell. This movie converted my perspective towards prequels!
However, there seemed to be a tonne of CONFUSION among those who
haven't yet watched the movie, with the number-one-most-frequently
-asked question being "Is Fantastic Beasts a franchise to Harry Potter?"
And my answer is : YES, and NO.
Okay. Don't worry. I'm not about to spoil the movie for you in this post,
but here's a little short synopsis of the movie that I've stolen from ......
*AHEM!* that's courtesy of IMDB, the most reliable movie review website ;)

The year is 1926 & Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne)
has just completed a global excursion to find and
document an extraordinary array of magical creatures.
Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have
came and gone without incident...were it not for a No-Maj
(American name for Muggles) named Jacob (Dan Fogler),
a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of
Newt's fantastic beasts, which could spell great
troubles for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.
Bottom line, Fantastic Beasts (oh my god kill the person who named this movie
THAT LONG!) And Where To Find Them is an independent story that happens to
fit into the same wizarding universe where Harry Potter lives in. It's not really
a prequel per se but I would still consider it a prequel to Harry Potter, since
(1) the time setting for this story happens wayyyyy before Harry Potter, and
(2) If I'm not mistaken, TWO main characters from the Harry Potter series were
MENTIONED in this movie & are related to the main characters in this movie.
Am I spilling too much TEA? Don't hate me hahah!
▲ Okay here's a photo of Eddie Redmayne (who played Newt Scamander) being all CUTE. I adore his character so much! He's like an actual living person walking out of anime like WTF? |
Speaking of the movie casts, I think they all did a bloody good job!
I know I know. All the main spotlight is focusing on Eddie Redmayne,
but the other actors did deliver great performances as well! Kudos!
All in all, nobody's stolen anybody's spotlight, they're equally good!
I was particularly impressed by Ezra Miller's (who played Credence
Barebone) performance. Not to forget, Katherine Waterston (who
played Tina) & Colin Farrell (who played Grave) were fantastic too!
Okay looking at all these pictures from the movie is making me want to go
re-watch this movie AGAIN arghhhhhh!!! (I have movie addiction issues)
However, I do think that the beginning of this movie is a little bit slow
-paced for me, but I'm fine with it because it's important for the plot to
slowly develop. After the first quarter of the movie, you'll definitely be
hooked by the storyline! Apart from being magical, it's also a wonderful
ride of visual marvel, fantasy, action, suspense & emotional heart-warming
scenes. You might have thought that you've known the gist of the storyline
from the movie trailer, but I promise you there's a lot more to it. My inner
child is totally relived again when the fantastic beasts were being introduced
one-by-one in the movie. It literally reminds me of the Pokémon game hahah!
And if you didn't know yet,
JK Rowling announced that there
will be another 5 more movies for
this series. God bless JK Rowling!
Have you watched Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them?
Let me know in the comments which scene is your favourite!
